Position Description

Quality Enterprises is looking for a General Earthwork Superintendent to join our team. The General Earthwork Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating the work of a multiple earthwork crews for mass excavation, detailed excavation, rough and final grading, and the demolition of miscellaneous structures.

Position Requirements

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead multiple earthwork crews, according to project plans, in all aspects of work.
  • Ensure that all assigned work progresses on schedule.
  • Clearly communicate expectations and responsibilities to crew foreman.
  • Promote a safe work culture by ensuring that all crew members maintain safe working conditions according to Company and OSHA regulations.
  • Oversee work schedule for earthwork crews.
  • Complete feedback sessions performance reviews for earthwork superintendents.
  • Proactively anticipate scheduling needs and potential issues three weeks in advance.
  • Communicate with upper management on a regular basis on potential scope gaps and other job site needs.
  • Prepare and submit required daily reports and paperwork.
  • Maintain QE’s image and positive relationship with the community through site cleanliness.
  • Proactively control job costs.
  • Promote environmental responsibility at the jobsite and among crew members.

Qualifications:

  • Combined education and experience required: bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or similar field along with five (5) years of experience in the field of major heavy highway or bridge construction including at least three (3) years of experience as a foreman or superintendent; or a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) along with ten (10) years of experience in the field of major heavy highway or bridge construction including at least three (3) years of experience as a foreman or superintendent; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class E Florida Driver License with acceptable driving record required.
  • Experience with project management and/or construction software.
  • Experience with Microsoft O365 and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Proficient in all aspects of earthwork, mass excavation, detailed excavation, and material management.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Excellent supervisory and leadership skills; ability to manage personnel and equipment efficiently.
  • Competent in reading and understanding civil construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Proven and effective experience with scheduling, ordering, field supervision, safety management, quality control, and budgeting of all phases of civil construction.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and standards.
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; bilingual a plus.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, or sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, or stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Must be able to move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires work performed outdoors in variable weather and lighting conditions, including extreme heat and humidity.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
  • This position requires travel to job sites locally and other states as required.
